Thursday, November 30 at 6pm
Join Lone Tree Cellars and The Woods' distiller Andy Davidson for a fun-filled evening of Italian-inspired amaros & liqueur. The Woods uses both local and international botanical ingredients to craft Italian-inspired spirits and liqueurs that reflect the beautiful terrain of the Pacific Northwest - born out of a passion for nature and the flavour found within it.
What's Included:
- One welcome cocktail
- Three spirit samples
- Educational session focused on the process and flavours of Nocino, Amaro Chiaro, and Amaro Classico.
We'll welcome you with a beautifully crafted cocktail using some of these incredible spirits, fine-tuned by our very own Chief Shaker. You'll be given some time to settle in and order snacks before the learning begins, or join us early for happy hour from 3:00-6:00.
This experience is about 1.5 hours in length. We welcome you to stick around for a cocktail afterwards and pick up any missing bar supplies, glassware or Born to Shake products for your home bar.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to grab your seat. If you are buying separate tickets but would like to sit together, please drop us a note of the names of those in your party so we can plan your table.
During this masterclass, you will sample:
- Nocino: Flavourful and aromatic, this Nocino showcases a different side to bitter-sweet liqueurs by combining freshly bitter green walnuts with herbs and spices. Staying as true to tradition as possible, this liqueur is made by harvesting unripe green walnuts from the Okanagan every summer. After the annual harvest, walnuts are chopped and macerated with a combination of delicious herbs and spices, then strained and left to rest before going into ex-bourbon barrels to mature. The left over nuts are pressed and the intensely dark, bitter liquid is cold-distilled through a one-of-a-kind vaccum still, offering notes of clove, cinnamon, molasses, orange, coffee, and more.
- Amaro Classico: Amaro is one of Italy’s most iconic aperitifs; famous for its deliciously bitter-sweet flavour, it is key to cocktails such as the negroni and the paper plane. While most amaro of this style is overwhelmingly orange focused, The Woods' version holds more delicate notes of botanicals and evergreen that are complemented by the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. The Woods' one-of-a-kind vacuum still allows for cold-distillation of the 9 botanicals that create the beautiful bouquet of aromas and depth of flavour that make up this Amaro Classico.
- Amaro Chiaro: Chiaro is the beautifully delicate sister of classic amaro. This Amaro Chiaro is less bitter and sweeter on the palate compared to traditional amaro. Made with 14 delicately balanced botanicals, the result is a wonderful bouquet of floral and aromatic herbs with soft green notes of mint, prominent citrus and velvety sweetness. Chiaro is the perfect aperitif for summer spritz season.
